When you are with people, smile frequently and maintain a cheerful countenance, but when you are alone, cry frequently. And be in a state of grief and sadness (on account of your sins). For it has been conveyed to us-and Allah Knows best-that, on the Day of Resurrection, the most things that a believer will find in his book of good deeds are the grief and the sadness (that he felt in this world on account of his sins).” [Imam Sufyaan ath-Thawri (rahimahullah)]

No one looks back and regrets leaving this world.
What is actually regretted is how real we thought it was.

Save yourself from worrying. Somebody else already took care of your affairs for you.

The Prophet is more worthy of the believers than themselves, and his wives are [in the position of] their mothers.

This is incredibly relevant.
Show them love, kindness, humility and respect. If they have hurt you or brought you down, find the love in your heart to forgive them. Just like us they too are humans, forgiveness is the key.
Ultimately you only have one set of parents and a very short time on earth.
 Love.

I always pray that when my parents reach old age, I have the kind of patience to treat them with love and kindness, like they had for me when I was a child.
